Chen-style Tai Chi is the oldest and parent Tai Chi form that originated centuries ago in China. This martial art is a complete training system that uses graceful and slow movements to improve your balance and strength. It focuses on building up the flow of energy in the body to generate power through methods such as coordination of movement and muscle relaxation. Unique to Chen-style Tai Chi are short bursts of power, soft motions combined with hard ones, slow with fast, and relaxed with “springing” ones. While many people recognize Chen-style Tai Chi as a means of self-defense, a corresponding purpose of Chen-style Tai Chi is to gain health and wellness. Today, Chen-style Tai Chi practitioners often want to change or prevent certain health conditions and to realize benefits such as better balance, agility, and concentration.

In addition, our program includes Chi Gong practice in all weekly sessions. This ancient practice consists of slow individual movements that focus on breathing and the “intention” of the mind during an exercise. It is done primarily while standing or sitting, with an aim of cultivating internal tranquility and flow of energy. Tai Chi forms are built on this foundation by adding the element of choreographed movement to Chi Gong exercises.

Our mission is to increase the awareness of health benefits of Chen-style Tai Chi in greater Sacramento area and make this ancient exercise easier to learn and its benefits accessible to people of all ages.
